Beer Bitterness = Brawls

Binge drinking is now becoming a worrying concern for the new Australian Rudd Government. Society at the moment is so angry and when you mix this deadly ingredient with alcohol; you get a recipe for human disaster.
If you were watching Channel 9 on Sunday night (16/03/2008) at approximately 8:10pm, you would have seen the story on the new binge drinking craze and what lasting effects it has had on two innocent young males. The reason being: they were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. Drinkers who can't get enough will probably never be stopped but the question is: why do they have to take their anger out on someone else? Why are they angry in the first place? Obviously they drink to drown their sorrows, however they don't realise what this could lead to in the early hours of the next morning.
One of the gentlemen in last nights "60 Minutes" story was an innocent 18yr old boy who loved his footy. He went out one night to a pub/nightclub in the city and found himself involved in a punch-on, him being the receiver. He is now bed-ridden: 24 hours, 7 days a week with only one world left in his vocabulary - 'mama'. This story left me heart-broken. He was just simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. This shouldn't have to be the reason though. Why should we have to let the fear for our lives take precedence when wanting to go out for a casual drink or a social night out? This is all because of a few drunken idiots who get a thrill out of fighting.
I applaud Kevin Rudd for making this issue his main concern for the time being but I urge him to quickly act upon it. Alocohol is not for the faint-hearted and should be used responsibly. I'm not at all saying that it's illegal and should not be consumed but one knock of the persons' beer next to you and the next minute you could be left for dead outside on the concrete.
