Joe the Plumber: Symbol of Absurdity

October 30th 2008 02:46
After all the hypocrisy, misstatements, and outright idiocy that have saturated this campaign, I thought that all of the jackasses had come out of the woodwork. I thought that there was nobody that I could despise more than the idiots we've met along the campaign trail. Enter Joe the Plumber. Joe the misinformed, tax-evading jackass.

Ever since his name was first crammed down our throats more than 20 times by John McCain during the last debate, Joe the unlicensed tax-evading plumber has skyrocketed this campaign and himself to a whole new level of pathetic, and has become, in my eyes anyway, a symbol of everything that is wrong with this country.

Of all the things I don't like about John McBush...er, McCain...I think there's even more I don't like about "Joe" the "Plumber". His journey to right-wing poster boy status began when he complained to Barack Obama that his tax plan would raise his taxes and punish him for fulfilling the "American dream". This despite the fact that Joe doesn't make anywhere near the $250,000 a year threshold of Obama's plan. Under that plan, those making less than $250,000 would get a tax cut. Joe claimed that he was planning on buying a company that makes $250,000 a year in sales. That turned out to be a lie. He was never considering buying the company, which does nowhere near $250,000 in sales in the first place. That alone would be enough to place good ol' Joe into the "dumbass" category, but fast forward to a few weeks later, when we find out that the GOP's newest puppet master doesn't even pay taxes. Yes, dear old Joe the "plumber" owes more than $1100 in back taxes. American dream indeed.

And as if we hadn't had enough of Joe the tax-evading unlicensed plumber shoved down our throats, just this week he held a press conference to campaign for McCain, who he called "A real American"...as opposed to all them fake Americans I guess. (Wonder which category I fit into?) This after Joe said he would not say who he was voting for.

Oh but it doesn't end there! Joe the Jackass has now hired a publicist, is considering running for Congress, and is also trying to secure a country music record deal and a book deal. For a busy plumber, good ol' Joe sure does have a lot of time on his hands. And he may have been worried about spending more money on taxes, but he sure doesn't seem to have any problem hiring himself a publicist. Talk about throwing your money down the toilet, so to speak.

Only in America could an unlicensed, unregistered, tax-evading plumber become the puppet master for a presidential campaign. Only in America could a misinformed jackass like Joe reach the status that he has somehow reached. I just have one question: why? Why is anybody taking this man seriously? Why is anyone giving him so much as a second glance? The McCain campaign used him to symbolize the typical middle class American. Not so much. The typical middle class American is not pursuing a book deal, is not considering running for Congress, and is not trying to get a country music deal. Also, I like to think that the typical American is slightly more informed and has better fashion sense.

The entire "Joe the Plumber" debacle has gone beyond any realm of insane. Its gone way past ridiculous. There are no words for what has become the Joe the plumber brand.
Joe the plumber is nothing more than a misinformed liar who has no idea what he is talking about, and has no place in politics, or anything beyond a clogged toilet for that matter.
When a misinformed plumber from Ohio can become the ass puppet of a presidential campaign, when he can become what he has become, there is something seriously wrong.
All this man had to do was lie to Barack Obama, get used by a pathetic presidential campaign, and blow his idiotic crap all over the news, and suddenly he's become the next talentless celeb. Now that's what I call the American dream.

Isn't that the whole point of the American dream? That anyone, anyone can become rich and famous (not necessarily in that order).
