What is it about celebrities?
March 16th 2008 12:06
Recently I wrote a 'Letter to the Editor' of 'The Herald Sun' where I wrote my concerns for elderly Australian man. I expressed that why does it have to take a celebrity or a person of celebrity status to provide a wake up call to Australian males to get off their butts and have their prostate checked. When Sam Newman was diagnosed with prostate cancer late last year and then announced his bad news to the media only a few weeks ago, the reponse was astounding. Doctors were claiming after this story made the headlines that Sam Newman will create a new influx of men visiting the doctor to face the music. The thing that gets me is that why aren't men given the necessay information early on to take indepedence for themselves to make it a regular check-up. Why is that it has to take this unfortunate celebrity to announce his story to create havoc for the men of Australia? I am delighted that Sam Newman has endured a successful operation and is hoping to return to 'The Footy Show' either this week or next week but I am concerned for the men of this country that they can't be bothered to show some initiative to possibly save themselves.
